A little about me and 40 West Grind

I am first and foremost a child of God. I am then a husband, father and friend. I am also a full-time nurse practitioner. I have been in practice since 2007 and have been working remotely since 2020. I have discovered that sitting behind a computer screen is (almost literally) killing me.

A few years ago, I began to look around at all of my treasure (mostly junk) and realized that the chaos I was seeing was likely representative of what was going on in my mind and heart. It was time to get organized and develop a plan. I decided that I need regular sunshine, fresh air and to work with my hands while I still can.

I had been researching business ideas for some time (as I have always had the entrepreneurial spirit) but in mid 2025 I came across a video of Tyler Mumford's story (GrindTime Stump Grinding in Provo, Utah). I began watching videos of guys like Adam (Mustang Rebuilder on YouTube) and Chris's stump and tree service (I think) who have been doing this for years. Since I have a fair amount of experience with heavy equipment and trees, I knew I would love this. I reached out to Trey at Parman Tractor. He turned me on to Orry (Gallatin/Hendersonville, I think) who had recently started a stump grinding business. Since then I have met one tree guy (Glenn in Dickson) and two other stump grinders (Lance with Ridgetop and Jesse in Murfreesboro). My goal is to build a network of people in the business (stumps and associated businesses) who operate with integrity, answer their phones, show up on time and do great work. Feel free to pray for all of us!

Thanks,

Rick
